Kaon has a unique technology base which gives us the ability to create best-of-breed interactive applications using a variety of delivery platforms. Our three key technologies are the Meson Platform, the Master Model Format, and vSpace Software.
The Meson Platform is a unique approach to delivering interactive web experiences. Built on the Java platform, Meson runs without a special plugin. Meson includes a rich programming language, a sophisticated optimizing interpreter, and 2D and 3D rendering libraries. Using Meson, visually rich user interfaces including both 2D and 3D graphic elements are easily assembled. Meson applications rely on the minimal Java 1.1 feature set, so they run on all platforms, and all browsers. The Meson applet is used to automatically deliver Kaon's Advisor client into the browser environment, and is the key to Kaon's unique capability.
The Master Model Format is Kaon's exclusive method for building reusable 3D content. The 3D model is defined at various levels of detail, allowing the same 3D model to be used in a wide range of applications, from high-definition video production to lightweight web viewing. Animated behaviors in the model are defined using a patent-pending technique that allows a natural separation between what a product model can do (range of motion, variety of appearance, etc.), and what it will do in a set of pre-defined scripted behaviors. This novel way of describing product behavior makes Kaon 3D product simulations much more robust, allowing the user to perform operations in any order, while ensuring realistic operation.
The vSpace Software suite is the toolset Kaon uses to build visual content for interactive applications. It includes desktop tools for the creation of Master Models, and enterprise systems for the production and management of 3D visual content. The vSpace Server system has a robust grid architecture, allowing massive scale content development projects, including video and still rendering for use in Flash or Video projects, and generation of compressed interactive web 3D content. This server platform can also be used as the basis for custom, web-based solutions, including generation of on-demand stills and video, and on-demand construction of lightweight web 3D models from component Master Models.
